The North Macedonian Ministry of Transport has been planning a PPP project for the construction, operation and maintenance of the western part of the Corridor VIII Highway, more precisely for the highway Skopje-Goštivar - Kičevo-Ohrid.
The North Macedonian Ministry of Transport has been planning a PPP project for the construction, operation and maintenance of the western part of the Corridor VIII Highway, more precisely for the highway Skopje-Goštivar - Kičevo-Ohrid. The project includes revitalizations of the existing and the construction of new sections of the corridor. The reconstruction of the state road from Goštivar to Kičevo is ongoing, with a total value of over EUR 6 million, and there is an ongoing project for the construction of a new highway from Goštivar to Kičevo. The motorway Kičevo – Ohrid should be done by the middle of 2021. So far, the realization of the highway is about 50% complete, and the current construction contract is valued EUR 600 million funded by the Export-Import Bank of China. The Government of North Macedonia and the contractor Sinohydro were negotiating an annex to the current agreement, which passed the Assembly of North Macedonia in November 2018.
In June 2018, the construction of the 23 km long expressway Rankovce-Kriva Palanka was initiated, which should be completed by 2021. The construction will be in two phases, and the investment is approximately EUR 58 million, with funds from the World Bank credit line. The contractors of the construction works are Granit and Beton from North Macedonia and the Italian company Tirana Skavi. EUR 12 million has been provided through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the rehabilitation and extension of the Kriva Palanka-Deve Bair road. An additional EUR 2.6 million will be provided as a grant through the EU's "Investment Framework for the Western Balkans" instrument, which will close the financial construction for the rehabilitation and expansion of 13 km from Corridor VIII. The tender procedure for the selection of the most suitable contractor will begin on 11 March and it will be completed by the end of April. According to the general procurement notice, published on the EBRD’s site, the Public Enterprise for State Roads intends to procure goods, works and services for the rehabilitation of this road.
